Dear MRC Family,

Blessings to you, beloved of God, in this season of Ordinary Time

I am writing to you from sunny/rainy/sunny South Florida. Some of you know I flew down to West Palm Beach on Tuesday afternoon to surprise my mother for her 85th birthday on Wednesday, October 28. And Mama was surprised! I’ve had a lovely time visiting with family, but tonight I return to New Jersey to continue the ministry to which God has called all of us at MRC.

All are warmly and joyfully welcome to worship this Twenty-Third Sunday after Pentecost/All Saints Day at 10:30AM when we will remember the Saints, Cloud of Witnesses, Ancestors, the Ancients, Intercessors, Patriarchs, Matriarchs, Prophets, The Venerables, Beati, Elders, The Holy Ones. Rev. Joe Kay wrote, “Our various celebrations this week remind us of an overriding truth that is at the core of so many of our religious and cultural traditions — death can’t separate us from love. Those who love us are with us always. They remain an intimate and important part of our daily journey to become more loving people and to build a more just society together . . . Their paths and ours continue to overlap. We still travel together. We can take reassurance and courage from knowing that those loving and prophetic people still march with us and work with us.”

As a way to acknowledge and give thanks for our Saints this Sunday, I am inviting you to bring in a photo of your loved one(s) and we will place these photos on a table with candles. Tom will lead us in our hymns and sing the Prelude “Sure Been Good” and the Anthem “Lifting Me Up.” I am preaching from Luke 20.27-38 and my sermon title is God of the Living. In addition, we will come to the Lord’s table of mercy and grace and celebrate Communion together. We are not going to have our brunch this Sunday, but please come downstairs for coffee and conversation with your church family. If you are unable to be in person for worship, we will be streaming live on our YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/@mrcafabulouschurchoflove1611.

I will see you on Sunday. Keep bothering and following Jesus, beloved.

With gratitude for the privilege of being your pastor and the holy call of loving you,

Pastor Trish
