Dear Middletown Reformed Church Family and Friends,

Pentecost blessings to you!

This Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer in our area. Many of us will gather with family and friends to have barbecues, go to the beach, and enjoy a long weekend.

My father was an Air Force pilot and served in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He flew an F-5 Sabre Jet and was a member of the Black Panther Squadron. He always recalled his time serving our country with great fondness and pride.

He came home from Japan.

I pray that as you enjoy time with your loved ones, you will pause to remember those who did not come home and who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we enjoy in our country.

Come this Trinity Sunday at 10:30 AM to worship God in Three Persons with your church family. Tom will be leading us in our hymns and will sing the Anthem “I Got You.” I am preaching from Romans 8.12-17 — we are joint heirs with Jesus! — and my sermon title is Just Like Family. Since next week is Pride Sunday and we are marching in the Asbury Park Pride Parade, we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper this Sunday. After worship, you are invited to come downstairs to the Lower Auditorium for coffee and conversation with your church family.

And speaking of Pride Sunday on June 2, please mark your calendars that worship will begin at 9:45 AM in order for me and others to get down to Asbury Park in time for the parade. If you wish to march or ride in the car, I need to know ASAP so I know how many sandwiches to purchase for our marchers. We will also have a booth at the Pride festival so come on by and say hello!

I’m looking forward with excitement to our 9th year of sharing God’s welcoming, affirming, and celebrating love for LGBTQ+ people with the good folks of New Jersey!

In gratitude for the privilege of being your pastor and the holy call of loving you,

Pastor Trish
