Dear Middletown Reformed Church Family and Friends,

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you!

We continue with our summer sermon series Sermons of the People. And this Sunday we will be exploring a difficult topic — Why does God allow evil and suffering in our world? My first response is to take issue with the word ‘allow.’ I’m not so sure God allows evil and suffering, as if there is a divine intentionality causing the suffering. That said, my second response is, “I don’t know,” but I am hoping to offer some reflection about evil, suffering and God’s love for us based on what is revealed in Scripture.

So, come and worship with your church family this Tenth Sunday after Pentecost and help me wrestle with this challenging faith issue. Tom will lead us in our hymns and sing the Anthem “My God Can.” I am preaching from Job 42.1-6, 10-17 and my sermon title is Answers from the Whirlwind. After worship, come downstairs to the Lower Auditorium for coffee and conversation with your church family before heading out to enjoy your summer fun.

See you Sunday! You are loved!

In gratitude for the privilege of being your pastor and the holy call of loving you,

Pastor Trish
