Dear Middletown Reformed Church Family and Friends,
Lenten blessings to you, beloved of God
How has the second week of your Lenten journey Coming Back to Life been for you? Were you able to pay a visit to some nearby chickens? Unfortunately, I did not get to do that but I noticed some of the birds in the backyard have started to pair up in anticipation of creating their own little broods. Indeed, love is in the air! Did you consider who has been like a mother hen in your life, offering shelter and care? We had a meaningful time at Soup & Scripture discussing our “mother hens.” Lastly, did you pick one of your three shadow cards and think of a way to actively help this week? For example, you were invited to pray for people who are lonely, or call or visit someone who might need company. If you are praying for those who are hungry, gather some food to donate.
Here is a very practical and local way you can do the latter. As some of you are aware, the Calico Cat Food Pantry's state and federal funding is in jeopardy right now due to the current administration's cutbacks. So, I contacted Community Outreach Board President, Judy Guarino, and asked what food items they needed the most.
Here is the list: canned tuna, grape jelly, black beans, tomato sauce, pasta, and canned fruit. I invite you to donate as you are able. This is a very real way we can pray with our hands and feet and love our neighbor as ourselves!
Come to church this Third Sunday in Lent as we continue our journey of coming back to life. Tom will lead us in our hymns and sing the Anthem “The Joy.” I am preaching from Luke 15.1-32 — a found sheep, a found coin, and a found son, not lost! — and my sermon title is Rejoice with Me! In addition, the New Jericho Trio will bring the Message for all ages singing, “Change My Heart, Oh God.”
I look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday. Keep following Jesus, beloved.
With gratitude for the privilege of being your pastor and the holy call of loving you,
Pastor Trish
