Dear MRC Family,

Pentecost blessings to you, beloved of God

This Sunday, we continue our Summer Sermon Series from the SALT Project — Summer Days: A Companion to Mary Oliver’s ‘Devotions.’ Our focus this week is TRUST using the Scripture from Matthew 6.25-34 concerning the birds of the air and the lilies of the field. What worries are occupying your mind, distracting you, or prompting you to “reap, gather, toil, or spin” instead of resting into trust?

Come and worship with your church family this Seventh Sunday after Pentecost at 10:30AM as we discover what it means to cultivate living our lives as one big trust fall into God’s arms. Tom will lead us in our hymns and sing the Prelude “I Can’t Thank You Enough” and the Anthem “You Have Been There.” I am preaching from Psalm 145 and Matthew 6.25-34 and my sermon title is Thanks for the World That Is Happening Again which is taken from a line in Mary Oliver’s poem, “On Thy Wondrous Works I Will Meditate (Psalm 145).” After worship, come downstairs to the Lower Auditorium for coffee and conversation before you head out for summer fun.

If you are unable to be in person for worship, we will be streaming live on our YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/@mrcafabulouschurchoflove1611. And if you are one of our many followers on Facebook, subscribers on YouTube, or you worship with us online, please consider donating to the ministries of MRC at www.mrchurch.us/give. Thank you for your generosity!

In closing, I leave you with another poem from Mary Oliver — “I Worried”

I worried a lot. Will the garden grow, will the rivers
flow in the right direction, will the earth turn
as it was taught, and if not how shall
I correct it?

Was I right, was I wrong, will I be forgiven,
can I do better?

Will I ever be able to sing, even the sparrows
can do it and I am, well,
hopeless.

Is my eyesight fading or am I just imagining it,
am I going to get rheumatism,
lockjaw, dementia?

Finally I saw that worrying had come to nothing.
And I gave it up. And took my old body
and went out into the morning,
and sang.

With gratitude for the privilege of being your pastor and the holy call of loving you,

Pastor Trish
